Number Ones
|
Janet Jackson has sold more than 100 million
records worldwide, and is one of the best-selling artists in
contemporary music. For the first time ever, 33 of Janet's
global #1 hits, plus the newly recorded single, "Make
Me," will be available on one album--NUMBER ONES. The
two-disc set celebrates the career and artistry of one of the
most successful and influential artists in music history.
Among the album's many highlights is new
single "Make Me," which was produced by Janet and
Rodney Jerkins. Along with "Make Me," NUMBER ONES spans
more than 20 years of chart-toppers, every #1 track spun off from
Janet's original albums, from her 1986 blockbuster
breakthrough CONTROL to her most recent, 2008's DISCIPLINE.
CONTROL sold more than 14 million copies worldwide, with five #1
singles. The best-selling album of 1990, RHYTHM NATION 1814 sold
more than 14 million copies worldwide, making Janet the first and
only artist in history to produce seven top 5 hits from one
album. JANET. sold 20 million albums worldwide, with six hit
singles and a nomination for an Academy Award® for Best
Original Song, "Again." THE VELVET ROPE has sold more
than 10 million worldwide, with six hit singles. ALL FOR YOU was
Janet's fifth consecutive album to debut at #1, with more
than seven million in worldwide sales. For Janet's seventh
consecutive platinum album, DAMITA JO, Janet took its title from
her middle name.
Janet's eighth consecutive platinum album, 20
Y.O., acknowledged her love affair with her fans. Janet
encouraged her fans around the world to design the 20 Y.O. cover
artwork and she chose her favorites for the U.S. pressings.
DISCIPLINE was Janet's 6th number one album and 10th studio
album.
NUMBER ONES is the first greatest hits compilation
from Janet in this century. Janet's last hits collection was
released in 1995.

Discipline
|
Discipline has now been released. Janet describes
her album in detail; "It's the idea that unifies the
songs on this record. As a concept, and even a lifestyle,
discipline goes extremely deep. It can be applied to so much
about ourselves. In my case,I see it as one of defining aspects
of my character. Discipline was there for me from the start. But
it was not until this record that I began to understand its full
meaning. "In putting Discipline out front -- as both the
title of the album and title of a song about sexual surrender --
I wanted to announce that I was venturing into new creative
waters. That meant working with producers like Jermaine Dupri,
Rodney Jerkins, and Ne-Yo, whose songs spoke to the immediacy of
my emotions. Like all my records, this one, whether intentional
or not, has autobiographical roots. It's difficult for me to
work any other way. I don't feel it, if I don't believe
it, I can't sing it.
"So Discipline, as a storyline, begins in my
childhood which someone could see as a classic study in
discipline. Discipline was part of a family culture that I
absorbed. I was born with it.
"I also believe that discipline has given me
the confidence to jump out of the nest. When L.A. Reid, Chairman
of Island Def Jam, and I discussed co-executive producing this
record, we both agreed that the feeling had to adventuresome and
fresh. I was interested in exploring musical scenarios--some
exotic, many erotic, but all deeply emotional. "I wanted to
push the envelope. And I'm glad that Discipline, both as a
song and an album, does just that."

20 Y.O.
|
20 Y.O. has now been released. The Album begins
with Janet declaring on the spoken intro to 20 Y.O. that she
wants to "keep it light" and "have fun," and
to that end the album boasts plenty of club bangers. "So
Excited" and "Get It Out Me" are cases in point,
with each sporting the spare, electro grooves ubiquitous in the
early 2000s. Such tracks dot the disc, thanks to top-shelf
producers like Jermaine Dupri and Terry Lewis, among others, but
Jackson's way with a slinky ballad hasn't diminished, as
"Call On Me," a duet with rapper Nelly, proves.
Jackson's music sounds fresh and modern, with its pop
instincts in tune with the contemporary market, almost as if she
were, herself, 20 years old.

Special Edition Album (CD + DVD) ~

Janet Jackson Makes Sexiest
Album Yet!
|
Janet Jackson knows sexy — from her topless
Rolling Stone cover to videos like the Herb Ritts-directed
"Love Will Never Do (Without You)" — but producer
Dallas Austin promises her new album titled Damita Joe is
"easily the most sexy thing she's done."
"Guys won't know what to do with
themselves after this," he said, laughing at the prospect.
"It's one of the best records she's made."
Austin said he's produced five songs with
Janet already, having worked with her over the last few months at
his DARP Studios in Atlanta. The Damita Joe album is due March
30, according to a spokesperson for her label. Austin said he and
Janet will record for another month before deciding which songs
make the final cut. Janet is also working with longtime executive
producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.
The overriding theme of Austin's
collaborations with Janet is her bubbling sexuality. "To me,
this is her Dirty Mind," Austin explained, referring to the
Prince album that established him as a hormonally charged pop
star. "It's a really sexy record, but not in a sensual
way. It's bold, it's fun, it's really positive.
Nobody's sad, nobody's mad. It's just really fun
songs where she happens to be talking frankly about
sex."
Austin said the direction came from the energy she
gave off from her when they first started working together.
"She always shows what's going on with her life through
her records, reveals the phase she's in with her life and
brings out that experience," he said.
Early on in the recording process last May,
producer 7 Aurelius said he and Jackson had crafted some
"cutting edge, hard-hitting dance music" for the LP,
and he predicted fans would be surprised by the final product
(see "Janet Jackson Recording 'Hard-Hitting Dance
Music' For New LP").
Austin, meanwhile, has also been spending time
working with another alluring talent — Gwen Stefani. The
bulk of the songs they've worked on were finished before the
holidays, he said.
"They're both the easiest artists to work
with, [Janet] and Gwen," Austin said. "With both their
albums, it's the most creative vibe I've had in a long
time. You'd think because of their status they're going
to be spoiled stars, but it's not like that. They're open
to anything you put in front of them, and that's so important
because as a songwriter and producer it leaves you free to do
what you do best."

Sexy Lyrics
|
Taken from "Warmth"
Mouth against your mouth
Getting you aroused
Whisper in your ear
I think I'll take it further south
Kissing on your neck
Rubbing on your leg
Slide a little further up
I feel you get erect
And now we're flesh against flesh
Breathing on your chest
So anxious to touch it
My mouth is getting wet
Just like the water from the shore
Let your rain pour
Baby brace yourself for...
